What makes it special

For the winter months, you couldn’t do better than an Alpine adventure and Austria is where you should make your first stop. With Saalbach, you’re not just getting the experience of one of the most stunning skiing locations, but there’s plenty to do in the villages that are linked to Saalbach as well. The main street of the Saalbach village is kept traffic free, so if you fancy a wander around its traditional streets, there’s a lot to take in! In the last couple of years, they’ve improved ski lifts as well, so you can get to the slopes quicker!

When should you go

Saalbach-Hinterglemm gets most of its snow from January through March. You’ll probably notice the highest hotel rates from around December, though. If you travel in the month or so before Spring, it’s ideal as the average temperature hovers around 30 degrees Celsius during the day, but there’s plenty of skiing still to be had!

What makes it special

If you’re after a cultural experience and seeking some character in architecture, head to Greece this spring! Oia is a scenic village on the north west edge of Santorini, and the first thing that strikes you are how the houses and shops are built into little niches on the sea-facing side of the village. There are white washed structures and blue-domed churches that help paint a stunning scene! One of the highlights of your trip to Oia will be the views you get as the sun goes down on the sparkling Aegean Sea.

When should you go

When the weather is warm! There’s a lot to do from spring onwards, but Oia really jumps to life in early summer with some amazing restaurants, swimming, sunbathing and a nightlife to boot. If you’re a wine connoisseur, you might enjoy the vineyards dotted across the island as well.

Mexico

What makes it special

Tulum is a town in Mexico that’s located in the Yucatan Peninsula and is a sizzling hot choice for the summer! There’s a deep-rooted Mayan influence here, with ruins that are over a thousand years old.  There’s also plenty to explore whether you’re swimming or snorkeling in limestone cenotes. A cenote is a naturally occuring sinkhole, caused by limestone collapse. The Gran Cenote connected to the River Maya is so crystal clear, you can see fish swim from the surface!

When should you go

June through September is the most humid you’ll feel in Mexico. If you’re visiting in the summer months, make sure you pack plenty of water to hydrate!

Sri Lanka

What makes it special

If you’re used to unpredictable English weather, you’ll absolutely love Sri Lanka. It never exactly rains like clockwork, even during the monsoon season, but it’s a perfect destination if what you’re after is plenty of sunshine, beaches, culture and wildlife. From tuk-tuks to tea districts around Kandy, there’s a cultural experience like no other waiting for you!

When should you go

In practical terms, the best times to visit depends on which part of Sri Lanka you want to see first. If you’re headed to the west, and coastal lines to the south, you’ll enjoy going between January and March. The east coast is a little different and you’ll get the best conditions from May onwards. As Sri Lanka is a small island, it’s bombarded by several weather patterns. You might want to take note of the humidity though and pack plenty of water!
