Free Maps for Schools scheme launched at the Education Show

One of the yearly problems for Geography Co-ordinators and Heads of Geography is how to spend an increasingly tight budget. Textbooks, field trips, posters plus all the necessary atlases, globes and maps inevitably means that some of these resources will be put on the “would also like” list.

Mapsinternational.co.uk’s new Free Maps for Schools scheme aims to ensure that maps, globes and geographical resources are current and relevant in order to improve children’s basic geography and map reading skills.

The Free Maps for Schools scheme allows schools to build up points which can be used to get a variety of maps for their classrooms – all free of charge. Free maps available include World Wall Maps, Continental Wall Maps, globes and more.

Points can be earned for the school by schools or parents by shopping at mapsinternational.co.uk. Teachers will also be able to earn points by downloading free resources, and using other parts of the site. We will be running point’s promotions to allow schools to add to their points totals from time to time also.

The Free Maps for Schools scheme makes available a whole host of free resources for the classroom. Available to download from the website are A3 or A4 sized maps of the UK, Europe and the World. We also have Jogs Travels, our interactive game for 7-11 year olds which can be used within the classroom to aid learning in a fun way.

David Stephens, Managing Director, mapsinternational.co.uk, says, “as one of the UK’s premier map makers we’re keen to encourage use of mapping resources in classrooms, not just in geography classes but other subjects too. The Free Maps for Schools scheme allows teachers to use all of the free resources we have available plus they can earn free maps for their school by collecting points and asking parents to help them too. It’s as simple as that.”

Teachers can register for the Free Maps for Schools scheme at our stand at the Education Show (PZ- H60) or by visiting www.mapsinternational.co.uk/freemaps. Information is provided online on how to start collecting points and also how to get parents involved too.
